Upgrading From Sitefinity 3 to 4.4
Now that I've fixed my issues with Windows Live Writer and Sitefinity, I can finally take some time to talk about the migration process itself, and hope that it will be helpful to anyone else going through the same process.
Sitefinity now includes a native Migration Module which imports content from old Sitefinity 3 websites, including pages, blogs, images, etc.
I've written extensively about this module, and most of it is summarized in the Sitefinity Migration Guide, so I won't go into detail on the migration itself. Rather, I'd like to demonstrate some of the specific details that I had to deal with in an effort to create more resources for users wanting to migrate to the latest version.
I'm going to break this down into what I feel are the major points that required special attention, which I'll spread out over several posts (linked as they are written:
- Pages and Design
- Extensionless Urls
- Blog Urls and Providers
- Redirects and Url Rewriting
- Disqus Comments
The last one will proabably apply to the least number of people as I'm only keeping Disqus as my comments platform since I already was using it in 3.x. Plus, I thought it would be a good migration exercise.
