Mid Year Update

As expected, this has been a busy year, but a good one. I've managed to accomplish or at least begin many of the goals I set out. And as is often the case when I update my site to the latest Sitefinity release, I thought I'd take a moment to log a few updates.

Music

For those of you who don't know this, I am also an amateur producer and DJ of electronic music. After years of accomplishing nothing with this, I finally sat myself down and forced myself to decide if it was something I still wanted to pursue. Turns out, it totally still is!

My latest production is a remix of AVICII's "Fade Into Darkness", which was originally supposed to be for a contest. Because of work (bit off way more than I could chew that month) I wasn't able to finish it in time, but I did finish it, which is a win in my book.

I don't know how many of you are into electronic dance music, but I thought I'd share it here anyway because, well, why the hell not?

I've already begun work on an original track, which I hope to turn into a full EP by next year! Stay tuned to my DJ profile and facebook page for the latest.

Sitefinity

As I mentioned, I've updated this site to the latest Sitefinity 5.1 release and even took time to enhance the site theme to work with the responsive design features. So if you're reading this on a mobile device, hopefully it still looks pretty good!

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this feature, especially since I have been very dismissive in the past of it. Personally, I usually prefer to have a completely separate theme for a mobile device, and indeed this is what I've done for my Page Init Solutions website (if you're on a mobile device check it out and let me know what you think!).

But with the right design and planning, responsive design is a great and powerful way to unify your site's identity across multiple platforms. I look forward to doing a lot more with it, especially since it's baked right into Sitefinity!

Blogs

I also went ahead and took down my personal blog. I realized that I just don't have the time (or talent, or wit) to express my personal opinions in writing. If you want to hear those, you're just going to have to join me for a beer sometime (or follow my 140 character rants on Twitter)!

But that does mean I'll dedicate more time and effort to the existing blogs, especially the Sitefinity Guru series, which I just updated with a new video.

Work and personal stuff continues to keep me busy, but I have finally wrapped up a lot of major projects, so I finally do have some free time to work on things like this (and my music!). And if nothing else, all that work sure gave me a huge backlog of things to explore! So be sure to watch those spaces, and if there is something you would like me to specifically talk about, please feel free to get in touch.

Another feature I added to the blogs was finally creating and exposing the RSS feed, after I kicked myself for having forgotten to do this on day one. Sorry about that one, here they are so enjoy!

  1. Software Blog RSS Feed
  2. Sitefinity Guru RSS Feed

Moving Forward

Lots more is in the pipeline for this year, including my first real WP7 app, diving into Win8 development (not to mention installing the damn thing!) and more Sitefinity stuff. So thanks for following along in my journey (all two of you who read this, one of which is probably me) and I'll see you at the next Sitefinity update :)
